I have been thinking about becoming an SEO specialist lately and think I would be pretty darn good at it.
So I pondered the question…SEO or not to SEO-that is the question! But in my head that is not really a question as more of a statement.
I follow a very successful SEO who I like to call as a friend more than a mentor at this point in my life. He has taught me many things and as far as teaching me anymore, yeah, I still can learn a bunch but as far as what he teaches… I think I got the handle on it.
He always says to write for people more than for the search engines which I truly believe we should but in the same time we should also not forget two things about online blogs.
- Original content=good organic traffic
- Good SEO=people being able to see your content quicker
At least in my head that is the way it goes.
I have only been blogging for such a short amount of time (2 years+) but have learned so much in that short amount of time. When doing SEO, it feels natural to me, like I have been doing it for longer than I have.
SEO or not to SEO-that is the question or is it?
Confusing, I know. Lately I have been writing quite a bit of lengthy content and working with WordPress. Within WordPress I have a plugin that is just the bomb when it comes to SEO, SEO by Yoast.
It is a plugin that allows me to see how my search engine optimization is before publishing a new post or page within my blog. And for the most part whether it is by luck or just the fact I paid more attention to that part of my friends training videos, I mostly do just fine.
I wish I could go into detail on just how it all works and maybe I will in another post but for now, trust me when I say, it just works.
What is SEO?
Well, that one is easy…It stands for search engine optimization. You know what it is if you are online but some may have not known it was called that. Most just use the term “search” the internet. With good SEO and not to mention good content, for the most part their search will answer the most relevant information people are seeking.
I wrote a blog post about search engine optimization named, “Stop words|How they affect SEO” in another post here in my blog and there it goes into how search engines do what they do, search for what you are looking for.
There are so many answers to so many questions nowadays online that I really do not think you would ever be able to read all of the information out there. But, if you get specific enough, you don’t need to go all through everything out there. That is what good SEO does for you.
Onto what I am getting at with this post…
Lately, I have been thinking about the whole write for people first, search engines second. Now, I agree on that statement but really when I start to think more and more about it, both are equally important. Just like negative and positive, good and bad, ect ect, you need both in the arena at the same time, equally.
There are ways to do it and not make it look like your are trying to get the search engines to see you before your content. I know this because I have been doing it for some time now with my personal blog.
I have been trying not to with my other LEGO blog but to be super honest, nobody see’s it, like it is not even there! I have not really tried to advertise my newest personal blog one bit and am still seeing way more traffic than I ever have with my niche blog which the keywords for are way more relevant than my personal blog which to me has no real keywords to it. It’s all over the place. LOL
My Vaders New Empire LEGO hobby blog has two major relevant keywords to it “LEGO” and “Star Wars“. And when you think about it, You would think people would be all over that, but that is not the case.
Now, I am not saying this simple trick will work for everyone but, the way I am SEO’ing my personal blog is a way that is opposite than the way that I am being taught and it does not seem to be affecting my page in a negative way. Then again, my personal blog is more of a testing site to see just what I can get away with.
Now, like previously stated…This trick will not work with every blog out there, I am sure of that! I am still writing good to excellent content and lots of it. It is all mine, some quotes or statistics I have pulled from other sources but only when it deals with something that I can’t just pull out of thin air and make up.
This is what I am thinking of doing
Tonight is a new chapter of my online ventures… I now know what I want to do more than anything else online…Become an SEO.
I am going to really start putting my nose to the grindstone and figure this stuff out and possibly soon start to ask a few local businesses that are not showing up in Google’s top 10 search pages if they would like me to get them there. Why not?
Now, I am no expert but I don’t suck either. (I laugh) Really, I don’t. I know why my LEGO blog is sitting at top spot for LEGO Star Wars hobby blog on Google and number 3 spot for LEGO hobby blog…Time and good content, social media and YouTube as well but with my personal blog, I actually got into the top ten pages for just one article about SEO and quick I might add. Why?, good SEO.
I love to write as you could probably tell by now if you follow my blog and usually have something different most of the time. I like to mix things up. So, I have the writing part down and with the way I implement my SEO tactics I can only go up from here.
So, ending this post with this…SEO and content go hand in hand, you can’t have one without the other. That is my belief. If you want to be seen.
Thanks for reading my post, SEO or not to SEO-that is the question. If for any reason you believe that I have this all wrong, please educate me, I always welcome any comments whether good or bad. But know this, I am creeping up the pages to number 1 spot slowly but surely and all with the help of good search engine optimization.
As for one other thing…I realize my images are different sizes, that is one thing I am working on and yes, that does affect your SEO.
